A culture of care.
African Aquaculture Company and our wholly owned subsidiary, Cape Atlantic Salmon, aim to create a new food industry in a part of the world that needs more value creation, access to healthy food, and more jobs.
Additionally, the region has unique and rich natural resources. We are committed to managing these natural resources sustainably and leaving as few lasting footprints as possible.
Responsibility, care, biological expertise, and respect are essential to our company.
Our key focus areas in sustainability:
Salmon lice
Salmon lice have not been observed in previous salmon farming in South Africa, nor identified in other wild fish species. If salmon lice or other parasites are identified during production, it will be treated with assistance from Aquavet veterinarian services.
Limited escape impact
Atlantic salmon will not be able to reproduce in African rivers due to warm river water. Escapes will have limited effect on local fish species.
Developing a new food industry
The United Nations calls for the global expansion of aquaculture.
Aquaculture and developing a new food industry is important to meet the growing population’s need for marine proteins.
Committed to best fish welfare
Our primary focus is on ensuring salmon welfare and establishing rigid health monitoring programs. There is no risk of winter ulcers due to optimal sea water temperatures.
Feed
Selected Skretting as feed supplier. Skretting have a strong focus on reducing the environ-mental footprint and increasing the positive social impact.
Job creation
Cape Atlantic Salmon will build on the existing work force from fishing industry in the Benguela Current with support of training and transfer of technology. We are dedicated to support local industries to develop infrastructure and value-added services to our operations.
Environmental monitoring
Environmental monitoring will be done to international standards. The company will follow the Global G.A.P guidelines and seek ASC certification.
Proximity to the consumer
The distance from Luderitz to the major markets in Southern Africa is reachable within 24 hours by road. Transport by trucks to regional and national markets in Southern Africa will reduce the need for airborne transportation.
